Golden Porridge

Look at the beautiful combination of colors in this bowl of porridge. It is a simple meal for a hot afternoon, easy to digest and fast to eat. This bowl of porridge is boiled with minced meat and garnished with 2 types of preserved duck eggs - salted egg in white and century egg in crystal brown....beautiful combination. To complement the taste, add a dash of pepper and sesame oil to the porridge.... Yep, a simple recipe with great taste!

Time to prepare : less than 40 minutes

What do you require: Serve 4

  • a cup of rice
  • 1 pc lean meat - minced
  • 2 salted eggs - cut into small cubes (obtainable from hypermart)
  • 2 century eggs - cut into small cubes (obtainable from hypermart)
  • salt, pepper to taste
  • some sesame oil
  • sprig of spring onions - for garnishing




(L)salted eggs and (R) century eggs

Simple Process :

  1. Wash the rice and boil with 1.5 litres of water over low heat, stirring occasionally to avoid burnt
  2. Minced the lean meat, mix with a little cornflour, salt, sesame oil, when rice is boiling, add in gradually the minced meat into the pot, and salt to taste
  3. When porridge starts to get starchy, it is almost ready, stir well and half close lid of pot to avoid porridge becoming sticky lump. Incase it gets too sticky, just add warm water to dilute it.
  4. Serve with some cubes of salted eggs and century eggs, garnish with chopped spring onion and a few drops of sesame oil

* If you like ginger, just add in the ginger strips



A simple meal for either breakfast or lunch!
