Japanese Pancake - Okono miyaki

This is a yummy and simple to make japanese pancake, it caught my interest when I was browsing thru U-Tube recently and found it interesting...lazy mum wants something new to serve. I notice there are many versions of making this Japanese pancake and as usual, I sort for the most easiest and simplest form. No worries, I have tested it out and I find this recipe taste good with a slight modification on the amount of eggs.

So, here it is... this is what I have produced and the kids mumbled "Hmmm...Nice". I simply described it as Taste wonderful. Pancake is just make up of batter mixed with chopped cabbage and lots of chopped spring onions plus any ingredients of your wish. I have added in slices of crab sticks as my choice.

Well, eventhough the shape is kind of odd but nevertheless it taste good ^ _ ^ hahaha. A friend of mine shared the recipe of making the sauce especially for this Japanese pancake, it blends so well...can you see the brownish red sauce which has been spread ontop of the pancake?
All you need : Make 7 pieces - about 10cm diameter size

  • 1.5 cup plain flour or 22ogms flour
  • 500ml water
  • 6 eggs
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 chopped cabbage
  • 6 stalks of chopped spring onions
  • 10 pc of crab stick

The Special Sauce for the Pancake

  • 3Tbs Worchestershire LP sauce
  • 3Tbs Tomato sauce
  • 2 Tbs light soy sauce
  • 2 Tsp sugar

Simple Process :

  1. Put those ingredients marked *red* in a bowl and make it into a smooth batter.
  2. Leave it for an hour in the refrigerator
  3. Add in the chopped vegetables into the batter
  4. Use a non stick pan with a little oil and start frying the pancake, about 1 cm thickness
  5. Add in the slices of crab stick on top
  6. Turn over once the bottom of the pancake starts to get browned
  7. Turn over again when pancake is slightly brown, next spread the special sauce on top of the crab stick surface, dish it out and serve hot

Look at my creation!!

I noticed the Japanese had it together with noodles, so I re-create it as below...hmmm, we like it and enjoyed a good meal!

Served with steamed hotdogs and baked beans....mmmm!!

Have an Enjoyable Meal! :))
